VOGUE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

THE
JOURNAL

I love the chemistry between a man and a woman. The romance, the energy, the intimacy-- and when, at their best, they really do pull out greatness in the other.
I have experienced many subjects and genres of photography  over the years, but wedding photography always draws me back. The sheer intensity, the 'once in a lifetime' nature of it, and so much diversity in one day. From details (still life), family portraits, documentary photography, food, fashion photography-- Weddings have it all. I believe Simon Sinek said it best:
"Working hard for something we don't care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion".

A recent client asked me to capture a “sparkler” shot- you know, the iconic “love” written in sparkler light. Being the overly-self-confident person that I am, I readily agreed that such things were easily possible. ha. These shots are much more technical than first meets the eye. In case you are, like me, always gung-ho […]

How to: Sparkler Wedding Tutorial

This is such a simple concept, but produces really beautiful images. Set your off camera flash at 1/4 power, using a set of triggers to sync. Place the flash where you want it, experimenting with how it impacts the image. Here’s an example from last Saturday’s wedding at Pomeroy Farms. Next time, I would pop […]

How to: Off-Camera Back-lit Portraits

This is why you want 2 shooters on your wedding day- two different angles, twice as many images. You can see my angle, and Bianca’s would be captured once I moved out of the way.  Same concept, except during the first look- love the complimentary images. I’m shooting a 50mm, 1.2 and Bianca is on the […]

Bridal Party + Family Portraits: inspiration

Some of the key differences I’ve noticed between portraiture and fashion: 1. Eye contact vs Eyes off-camera. Fashion has a lot of “off camera” glances while portraiture keeps eye-contact because so much of the personality of the individual is captured in the eyes. For portraits I intentionally keep eyes at camera or eyes down her […]

Fashion Shoot: Moulagerie

(as the photographer) Yes, we all want moveable, easy clothing, however, it doesn’t serve as an excuse to show up on your client’s wedding day looking like you’re going to paint the walls of your mom’s house. Remember that how you look like when you show up at your client’s special event will ultimately […]

What to Wear to a Wedding

Tom + Claire (my brother and sister-in-law) shared their vows on the shore of Flathead lake surrounded by intimate friends and family. It was such a privilege capturing the love between two of my own family. After the reception we stole away for 10 minutes to capture some of that gorgeous evening light. For those […]

Flathead Lake Wedding: Tom + Claire

Well…not really. Wifey’s just wanted to for so long, she practically can envision the entire scenario. Big blue burning barrel….jeans soaked in kerosine. Stuffed in barrel. Light a match. VOOM. Outdated saggy pants are engulfed in flames. I’m sorry Arizona brand, you done me wrong for long enough. Rest in peace. Wifey did not realize marrying […]

Advents of Husby & Wifey: They Burnt The Pants

A basketball star and all-around athlete, Connor was super chill and willing to do anything- and when you’re with this lady, that could be anything ;P

HighSchool Hottie: Connor

I hope I’m still as good a friends with my Husby as Kristen is with Scott. They still tease each other, laugh at each other and hold their memories. They still go on dates. They still hold hands after 9 years of life together. Kristen, I started tearing up as I finished these photos- and […]

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen. She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way.

Christa is absolutely PHENOMENAL! My husband and I are beyond blessed to have had her capture our day! She was so great at directing people kindly and having fun too! She's a blast and we enjoyed the day more because of her! We loved getting to know her and she even had us to her home the week after our wedding for a brief photo shoot since the weather had been bad on the wedding day...she really went above and WAY beyond the call of a photographer and became our friend! She's the type we'd schedule a photo shoot with simply to see her and catch up!! Her baby is the cutest most joyful girl just like her momma! 💕There are not words to reccomend Christa highly enough! 💕We love you Christa!!
