VOGUE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

THE
JOURNAL

I love the chemistry between a man and a woman. The romance, the energy, the intimacy-- and when, at their best, they really do pull out greatness in the other.
I have experienced many subjects and genres of photography  over the years, but wedding photography always draws me back. The sheer intensity, the 'once in a lifetime' nature of it, and so much diversity in one day. From details (still life), family portraits, documentary photography, food, fashion photography-- Weddings have it all. I believe Simon Sinek said it best:
"Working hard for something we don't care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion".

My dear friend Meghan Shea. We’ve endured nationwide debate tournaments, high-school drama, overseas missions trips,  boys and now…wedding planning. On September 8th, “Megs” became Mrs. wed to the dashing Hunter Haugen. I’ll never forget the way she looks into his eyes, absolutely radiant. I’m pretty sure she was actually glowing. To prepare for her nuptials […]

Green + Pink: Garden Inspired Bridal Shower

“Do you give family and friends a discount on your photography?” That would be a no. Immediate family being the one exception. I’ve found that when there is no “value” on my services, the clients treat it as such, even if I’d typically be charging several hundred for the services given. Curiously enough, I’ve […]

How to Price for Friends and Family

I first fell in love with Kiss wedding books after discovering them through photographers Zach and Jody Gray.   These babies are a true find. The design software is a synch, customer service is fabulous, and turnaround time swift. Check out the complimentary album case. 🙂 I love using Kiss.

Wedding Albums Worth Kissing: Kiss Wedding Books

Dan and I were delighted to share dinner with Mark and Christina and hear their sweet love story together. There is such a peaceful settledness about the two of them, Mark cracks his wry smile and makes us all laugh with one of his stories. Christina quietly describes her research that brought invites and acclaim […]

Mark + Christina: Kelly Point Park Wedding

When two of your friends get married, it’s like enjoying the merge of two separate favorites. You once new them as separate entities and can watch with delight as they unite as one. Each brings out different qualities in the other that neither would reveal alone. When Jon looks at Laura, it’s like beams of […]

Jon + Laura: Washington Estate Wedding

I do find traditional bridal party photos rather stiff and boring, you know the kind, the ones where everyone stands in a line and smiles like 8 prom couples. Yikes. Eeep. Hand me a blindfold! I think that Vogue Mag and other such fashion publications have really changed the face of group shots. The horrors […]

How I Shoot Bridal Parties

Since this is the very first telling of the advents of Husby and Wifey, our characters need a bit of introduction. He is tall and the strongest man in the world, his laugh makes the whole room wake up and smile unconsciously. She is fiery and full of vim, bursting around the edges of her green […]

The Adventures of Husby and Wifey: The Nightshift Debacle

I was really considering coming to this shoot decked in a paint tarp. You know, cut a few holes for my head and arms and voila- just try and get paint on me. I dare you. My fears, however, dissipated when I saw a seemingly innocuous canvas sitting prim and proper on the lawn. Boy […]

Ryan + Brianna: Paint War Engagement

For a photographer, time is money. I don’t want to spend hours in front of a computer, away from my husby and drinking gallons of coffee just to survive. No, I want to be free to do what I love- working with people, shooting, telling stories and being with my family. What to do with […]

Why I Outsource My Wedding Editing

What Kristen didn’t know, Peter did. He knew he was going to marry that girl. He knew he had his eye on her from the age of…12. He knew he couldn’t find a better match. Perhaps it’s that winsome smile or mischievous eyes…clearly there is something in this girl that is truely unforgettable. Peter knew […]

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen. She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way.

Christa is absolutely PHENOMENAL! My husband and I are beyond blessed to have had her capture our day! She was so great at directing people kindly and having fun too! She's a blast and we enjoyed the day more because of her! We loved getting to know her and she even had us to her home the week after our wedding for a brief photo shoot since the weather had been bad on the wedding day...she really went above and WAY beyond the call of a photographer and became our friend! She's the type we'd schedule a photo shoot with simply to see her and catch up!! Her baby is the cutest most joyful girl just like her momma! 💕There are not words to reccomend Christa highly enough! 💕We love you Christa!!
